The Soft Stone Sofa is a modular sofa system that brings together architecture and comfort in a unique way. Inspired by the large, staggered stone blocks of Parque da Cidade in Porto, it combines clear geometry with an organically soft aesthetic. The asymmetrical modules create a wide range of configurations, tailored to the individual space, giving the sofa a sculptural presence that shifts with perspective. A carefully engineered upholstery construction ensures generous comfort, while selected fabrics enhance its soft design language and lend the sofa a warm, inviting character.
Inspired by form and nature
Designed by Gabriel Tan, the piece brings together clear geometry and an unexpectedly soft, organic presence. The system’s eleven modules reflect the asymmetrical structures the designer encountered in the park, as well as the sculptural sensibility found in the work of Isamu Noguchi – where solidity and softness exist in quiet tension.

Defined by rounded shapes and asymmetrically composed modules, the sofa appears both organic and geometric. A considered drape of the upholstery enhances its inviting softness – not only visually, but through touch, reinforcing its tactile appeal.

Individually composed with eleven modules
The system is based on eleven distinct modules, deliberately avoiding symmetry, following a fluid, sculptural logic. This flexibility enables individual compositions, carefully tailored to the character of each space.
Covers to settle into
In collaboration with the international textile manufacturer Zimmer + Rohde, four exclusive fabrics have been selected to complement the form: Tinto, Pamir RE, Chenille Andro Plus and Antoni. Alternatively, Soft Stone can be upholstered in a wide range of fabrics or leather. All covers are removable and replaceable. Each piece is crafted with exceptional precision in Bavaria.
Gabriel Tan
Gabriel Tan (born 1982, Singapore) is a furniture and product designer whose practice works at cultural intersections, often exploring new ways to reinterpret tradition, craft, and technology. In 2025, Gabriel received Singapore's President's Design Award for Designer of the Year, the nation's highest design honour, and was named Louis Poulsen's first-ever Designer of the Year.
